Hello,
that looks like a damaged gasket and yes, that have been the reason for your bad engine-starting.
Clean the rusty areas carefully and don't do scratches on the plate where the gasket will placed.

Greeting
Hansejung

I'm sure.

At your second picture you can see that the metal ring should be between the seals. You can also see the directions of placing the seals.

ok, oilseals of waterpump inserted, motor reassembeld with new paperseals etc.

but now i have a few electric issues.

where does the blue wire go?

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-ARTELAVP.jpg

i connected the battery and tried to start and after 4 short tries, i saw the blue wire connected to the coil start to melt.
any idea? is it because the blue wire isn`t connected?

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-GOZNBYTB.jpg

where is the negative connected to the frame?

sofar no oil leak anymore, only the bad starting still remains.

in previous reply i `m asking where the blue wire have to be connected, anyone have a clue?

i think the melted wire to the coil was a bad negative connection of the battery.

ok, i think nobody knows where blue wire is going, also nothing seems to mailfuction.

today i started to analyse the starting problem.

first i push start for 10 seconds and check the sparkplug,it is dry.
second 10 sec. of starting, still dry
third 10 sec. of starting,, a little wet
fourth 10 sec. of starting, it starts to run.

with this info i checked the fuel supply and probably i have found the starting problem ,will try to start Leo tommorow for last test.
if problem stays i will try to fit an electric fuelpump

ok ,i think i solved the problem.
i bought a brand new oko 26mm carburator on ebay for 60€ incl. transport ,fits perfect.
had an old k&n powerfilter and this also fit perfect.

result is a killer aprilia leonardo.

accel is much faster, in notime on 120 km/h, topspeed must be at least 130 on speedo (did not check because i had my 7 years old doughter with me,and stopped at 120)
but the most important its start much better.

Hello,
good to hear that you've solved your problem!
Do you have an part-number of the carburetor?
