Hi
I got my license-plate for the leo, yesterday And it is just perfect.
But i have some problems with it.
When i was testing the Leo around the block on the long roads, it could do max 150-155km/t at the speedo. And the acceleration/pull was constant and VERY hard, I was really pushed back in the seat.
I took it for 2 rides in two days each for about 15 minutes, and the pull was hard and the top was great.
But now the strange comes.
I got the plate for the bike, last Friday and was on "holiday" in the weekend, so i could not drive it there.
But when i was off to work on Monday morning, it started and droved ok, but not great.
the pull was very weak and the top speed on the speedo is only just about 100km/t
In a traffic-light a old Ford Escort was faster than me, and he was not even stamping hard on the speeder - I think my 50cc Italjet Formula is quicker than the Leo now.
When i got out on the freeway, i droved over a little bump, and suddenly it was accelerating very hard, just as it did on my test-drives. but only for a short notice, because i had to slow down.
After that it was back to the slow-run, and it again wouldn’t pull that hard... It has now been like that in two days.
I thought that it would be the rollers in the variomatic, that was stuck, but i checked it and it was fine.
I also cleaned the air-filter and changed the spark-plug for a new one.
And nothing changed.
The variomatic/flywheel is really worn, and is about to be changed and the belt is only 21mm (a new belt should be 23mm)
I am normally really good with auto-scooters, but this is really hard to tell, because the engine SOUNDS really healthy and it drives well, is it is only at half the power as before
- I hope you got the general meaning of this little novel
Leo 250 performance is halved over the night.

Re: Leo 250 performance is halved over the night.
hi thebat,
how many kilometers are on your Leo? You say, the variomatic is worn out, that sounds like lots of kilometers!
I think, your suspicion is right, and the vario and the belt have to be changed. If the vario is really that worn out, the belt might get stuck in this grooves on the vario, especially if the belt is old, too!
You´ll also notice a higher top speed with a new belt, so it´s worth it.
A new vario comes best from Malossi, the 'Malossi Multivar', unless spareparts are cheaper where you come from than they are in Germany.
Greetings!
joachim

Re: Leo 250 performance is halved over the night.
Hi Joachim
I come from Denmark, so i usually buy parts from SIP and ScooterCenter in köhln.
You could be right with the vario, because, when i hold something flat against it, it is VERY deep pitted...
MUCH more worse than this
http://www.aprilia-leonardo.de/assets/i ... eiss02.jpg
And it is on both the flywheel and vario. - And the engine has done just above 50.000km
I do have a brand new original belt lying around somewhere at home, and i do have a spare-engine with 11.000km on the clock, so i can try to borrow the vario from it.
- It sounds reasonable enough that it could be that.
Is it by the way normal, that the gearing is really noisy, when i drive, it is the most noisy part, it sounds almost like it runs without oil.
This is my Leo

Re: Leo 250 performance is halved over the night.
I just talked with the previous owner of the Leo.
He said that there was some kind of a valve in the carburetor, which was controlled by the vacuum or something like that.
He has earlier had the exact same problem as i, but that was corrected, when he changed the carburetor with one from a Yamaha majesty (same engine, as you know)..
He said, that when the air-tube was off, he could see that vacuum-valve "flap" up and down total uncontrollable, and it was therefore it "restricted" the air-flow to the carburetor..
Does that sound logical?
Do the caburator have that "twin-valve" where the one valve are controlled by the gas-handle, and the other valve controled by the vacuum?

Re: Leo 250 performance is halved over the night.
I found out what it was.
It was the vaccum-valve that was stuck, so i could not give it full power... ... so cool...
- By the way, can the rear-dampers from a Leo 125/150 be used on my 250?
